Abstract
This research explores evolving trends in entertainment consumption among the youth of Silchar Town in Southern Assam, emphasising the comparison between binge-watching on Over-the-Top (OTT) platforms and traditional theatre visits. This research paper further investigates the reasons for these changes in a small city in Northeast India, considering the global rise in the popularity of digital streaming services. It also explores factors such as accessibility, cost, social influences, and content availability that shape viewing preferences. Additionally, the study assesses the impact of OTT platform growth on local cinemas and general movie-watching habits. It considers the cultural implications of this shift, including potential effects on communication, language, and content preferences among the youth in Silchar. By employing surveys and interviews, the research paper provides insights into the evolving nature of entertainment consumption in a local setting. The findings shed light on how digital platforms are altering media consumption patterns in smaller cities and the potential long-term effects on regional cultural traditions and the traditional film industry.
